New Urkana: Paragon
Character Set-up
Previous Characters Races
Any previous character is welcome to return for NUP.  There will be a slight readjustment of experience points so that every character starts with the same amount. All previously playable races are still playable in NUP.  Player's Handbook 2 introduced some new races.

Deva - are very rare in Urkana.  Most live as recluses, but sometimes one will get involved with the mortal races.
Gnomes - are still rare in Urkana and not native to the material plane.  Any gnomes are refugees from the Feywild.
Goliaths - lived in the mountains to the west, but some clans have migrated east.
Half-Orcs - were previously present in Urkana, but now their blood line breeds true.
Shifters - were previously present in Urkana, but now are present in greater numbers.  Several tribes of shifters share the plains with the horseclans.

Forgotten Realms PH also introduced two races to 4E.

Drow - have existed under the surface of Urkana for almost as long as the Elves have been on the surface.  Like the surface dwelling Elves, their numbers were greatly reduced by the Cataclysm.  Some communities of Drow are now on the surface or close to the surface.  Occassionaly, a Drow will shun their ways, and live among the other races, but face prejudice in settlements near Drow strongholds.

Genasi - in Urkana are the more traditional Genasi in origin and looks, but do retain their elemental powers from 4E.
Experience Points
All characters will start with 23,000 experience points.  This will allow all characters to level about the same time.

This starts the group at level 10 about half way to level 11.
Backgrounds
Characters can use any of the Scales of War backgrounds or gain background benefits according to the guidelines in Player's Handbook 2.

If you are bringing back a previous character, you can go back and add a background.
Equipment
New characters get equipment according to page 143 of the Dungeon Master's Guide.
Classes
All classes and class options from the Player's Handbook, Forgotten Realms Player's Handbook, and Player's Handbook 2 are available for play, except the spellscar.
